The University of Missouri men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Cross Country Pre-Nationals Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. The meet was held on the same course that will host the National Championship Meet on Nov. 20. The men finished 17th in the White Division Race (8k), while the women finished 23rd in the Blue Division Race (6k). Senior Amanda Bales (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the women with a 25th place finish while Senior Tim Ross (Alto, Mich.) finished first for the men and 50th overall.

Missouri Head Coach Jared Wilmes was pleased with the Tigers' individual results. Seven Missouri runners broke their personal-best times in Saturday's races.

"We had individuals that ran really well today. It will help us as we go into the championship season."

The Tigers' first race of the championship season, the Big 12 Championships, will be held Oct. 27 in Lawrence, Kan.

Women's Blue RaceThe Tiger women finished 23rd in the competitive Blue Race (6k) with 554 points. The race included 36 teams, including 11 teams currently ranked in the USTFCCCA top-30 poll. No. 1 Stanford finished first with 45 points, while No. 18 Minnesota finished second with 200 points. The Tigers' 23rd place finish was close to the other two Big 12 schools in the Blue Race. Oklahoma finished 21st and Texas A&M finished 24th, 15 points behind the Tigers.

Bales led the Tigers individually, finishing 25th overall with a time of 20:47.2. This was Bales' best 6k time since the 2003 NCAA Championships, when she finished 23rd with a time of 20:31. Wake Forest's Michelle Sikes won the Blue Race with a time of 20:16.4. Junior Kate Greer (Marshalltown, Iowa) finished second for the Tigers and 78th overall with a time of 21:27.0. Greer broke her previous personal-best for a 6k, 21:49, set at the 2004 NCAA Midwest Regionals. Sophomore Ellen Ries (Ryan, Iowa) finished third for the Tigers and 104th overall in 21:43.1. This broke her career best as well for a 6k, which was 22:57 at the 2005 Big 12 Championships. Sophomore Trisa Nickoley (Tecumseh, Kan.) finished 157th. Tiger Sophomore Angela Potrykus (Evergreen, Colo.) finished fifth for the Tigers and 190th overall. Maddie Schueler (Louisville, Ky.) finished 223rd and Kasey Kimball (Eureka, Mo.) finished 234th.

Men's White Race The men finished 17th in the White Race (8k) with 466 points. The race featured 36 teams, including 11 teams ranked in the USTFCCCA top-30. Fifth-ranked Iona won the White Race with 100 points, while No. 3 Stanford finished second with 106 points. The Tigers finished ahead of Big 12 member Baylor, who finished 31st.

Individually, five of the Tigers' top seven finishers recorded personal-best times Saturday. Senior Tim Ross (Alto, Mich.) finished first for the Tigers and 50th overall with a time of 24:27.4. Tiger sophomore Garett Jeffries (Clarkson Valley, Mo.) finished second for the Tigers, only seven places behind Ross. Jeffries finished 57th with a career-best 8k time of 24:30.9. Freshman Dan Hedgecock (St. Louis, Mo.) finished 98th with a personal-best time of 24:50.7. Tiger junior Colten Green (Roach, Mo.) finished fourth among Mizzou runners and 132nd overall with a personal-best 8k time of 25:06.9. Tim Cornell (Columbia, Mo.) finished 135th with a personal best time of 25:08.1, and Michael Barrows (Flint, Mich.) finished 136th with a career-best time of 25:08.2. Junior Billy Bell (Chesterfield, Mo.) finished 180th.

Bradley Invitational The Tigers also sent runners to the Bradley Invitational (8k), in Peoria, Ill. On Friday, Sept. 13. Sophomore Brian Graybill (Liberty, Mo.) finished 18th and freshman Chris Pullen (St. Joseph, Mo.) finished 22nd with a personal-best time of 26:27 (8k).

In the women's 6k, freshman Emily Baker (Wildwood, Mo.) led the way for the Tigers with an 18th place finish. She finished the race in 23:10.
