Columbia, Mo. - Countdown to college basketball season is underway in Columbia, Mo., and the 2006-07 University of Missouri Tigers make their official debut on the hardwood on Oct. 13 at Mizzou Madness inside Mizzou Arena.
The Midnight Madness style-event, featuring the Mizzou Men's and Women's Basketball programs, is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. following the annual Rock Bridge-Hickman High School football contest at Memorial Stadium / Faurot Field. Admission (and parking) at Mizzou Madness is free to the general public, but the Missouri Department of Athletics is teaming up with the Central Missouri Food Bank and asks fans to donate one canned (food) item per person upon entrance. Collection bins will be available at the doors. Doors to Mizzou Madness open at 8 p.m.
Q106.1 Morning Rush DJ's Jet and Katy will serve as the emcees at Mizzou Madness and will hold a series of on-air contests throughout the week to select 10 Mizzou students for participation in an abbreviated set of practice drills, similar to what Head Coach Mike Anderson and the Tigers do on a daily basis.
Selected fans in attendance will then have the opportunity to team with their favorite Tigers in a 3-point shootout. Fans will be chosen at random to team with members of the Mizzou Men's and Women's teams, with the winning team being the duo that connects on the most 3-pointers in 30 seconds.
Members of the Men's and Women's programs will then compete in a 2-Ball shooting competition before both clubs close the evening with team introductions and scrimmages.
Fans unable to attend Friday's Mizzou Madness on Oct. 13 will have a second preseason opportunity to catch the Mizzou Men's Basketball team prior to the start of exhibition play. Mizzou will host its annual Black and Gold Game on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. Admission to the Black and Gold Game is $5, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit both the Boy and Girls Club and Coaches vs. Cancer.
With the opening of basketball season scheduled for Friday, Mizzou Basketball will host its annual media day on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. Mizzou All-Access subscribers will be able to watch Head Coach Mike Anderson's press conference live at mutigers.com.
