Columbus, Ga. - Ranked 24th in the nation the Missouri softball (4-6) team suffered its second loss of the day, 2-0, to No. 17 Auburn (11-2) in game two of the NFCA Leadoff Classic on field four of South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga. Sophomore pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) fell to 4-4 on the season allowing two runs off four hits in six innings of work.
The Tigers of Auburn and Missouri were scoreless through five innings and Mizzou was held hitless for the first time since playing No. 1 Arizona in 2004.
Auburn scored on a two-out, bottom of the sixth home run by shortstop Ashley Griffin. Griffin's two-run crush drove in pinch runner Nicole Russo who advanced from second after catcher Tatiana Fernandez doubled to left field.
If the forecasted rain holds off, Missouri is slated to play game three of the NFCA Leadoff Classic tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. (CST) against #13 Arizona State. The Wildcats finished their first day of tournament play 2-0 with wins over #23 North Carolina (4-3 in 9) and #17 Auburn (1-0 in 8).
