
Arndt's Single in Ninth Gives Tigers 2-1 Win

COLUMBIA, Mo.- - No. 19 Mizzou scored a run in the bottom of the ninth on a single by sophomore Gary Arndt to defeat Texas A&M 2-1 on Friday at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers have won each of their three series openers in Big 12 play this season.
Tied at one in the ninth, junior James Boone led off with a single and moved to second when freshman Jacob Priday walked. Junior Zane Taylor followed with a perfect sacrifice bunt, moving both runners up.
Boone was thrown out on a close play at the plate on a fielders' choice by junior J.C. Field. Arndt followed with the single down the right field line to score Priday and hand MU the 2-1 win.
Sophomore Max Scherzer won his seventh-consecutive start, going a career-long eight innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out nine and walked two, moving to 7-1 on the season.
Sophomore John McKee was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Tigers. Field extended his hitting streak to three games with a 1-for-3 night.
The two teams will return to Taylor Stadium for game two of the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The final game of the series is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
