Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Women's Golf squad recorded its best round of the Big 12 Championships on Sunday with a 304 to finish with a three round total of 923 to finish in fourth place. Oklahoma State (900), Texas (901) and Baylor (914) finished ahead of Mizzou. This is the second time in the last three years that the Tigers have finished in the top five at the Championships which were played at the par 72, 6,323-yard University of Texas Golf Course in Austin, TX.
"We played pretty well this weekend but we couldn't knock down birdie putts when we needed to," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "We have put ourselves in a good position to qualify for regionals with a solid regular season and we'll see where we end up tomorrow afternoon."
Senior Maria Ohlsson had a super final round with a 73 to record a fourth place finish with a three round total of 223. This marks the second straight season that the All-Big 12 first team selection has finished in the top five as she recorded a fourth place finish last season.
Junior Denise Knaebel also played well on the weekend with a 75 in the final round to finish with a total of 230 to put her in a tie for 12th place. Knaebel was one of six players to finish at +14 and shot her best round of the tournament on Sunday. Fellow junior Kelli Strubinger finished in 22nd with a total of 234 while senior Mindy Bullard (29th, 236) and sophomore Stephanie Wavro (41st, 242) rounded out the Tigers scoring efforts for the tourney.
Mizzou will find out their postseason tomorrow at 2:00 pm when the pairings for NCAA Regional are announced. They have qualified for post season play in each of the last three years and will more than likely be headed to Lubbock, TX, for the Central Regional.
