Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Women's Golf squad recorded its sixth top five performance of the 2004-05 season on Sunday finishing in third place at the Mountain View Collegiate. The tournament was played at par-72, 5,988-yard Mountain View Golf Course in Tucson, AZ which yielded excellent scores the entire weekend. The Tigers shot a 296 on Sunday and fired an 881 for the tournament, just two strokes off of the three-round school record they set two tournaments ago at the Lady Northern Classic with an 879. Four of the five Tigers who competed at the tournament finished in the top 25.
"I was extremely pleased with the way we competed the entire weekend and I thought our focus was excellent," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said of her No. 13-ranked squad. "This was a great tournament and it came right down the end which is a good situation for us to both build on and learn from as we head down the stretch of the season."
Senior Mara Ohlsson was the Tigers' top individual finisher as she fired her best 54-hole total of the spring with a 217, which put her in a three-way tie for eighth. Ohlsson fired a 73 in the final round after shooting a 69 in the second round yesterday. Sophomore Kelli Strubinger also continued her solid play this spring with a total of 222 (T-23) along with senior Mindy Bullard, who also shot a 222 (T-23). Not to be outdone was freshman Stephanie Wavro, who opened the tournament with rounds of 73 and 71 yesterday and also finished the tourney with a 222. Strubinger's final round of 71 was one of three below-par rounds the Tigers were able to put together this weekend, but 11 of Mizzou's 15 rounds for the tournament were at 75 or lower.
The Tigers conclude their spring regular season on April 10-11 at the Susie Maxwell Classic before playing in the Big 12 Championships in Austin, TX on April 23-24. For more information on Tiger Women's Golf, log on to www.mutigers.com.
