Thanksgiving Fun with Julie Abaray

The moment my plane landed at the Cincinnati airport last weekend, I got excited butterflies in my stomach. I was finally home. For the first time since Labor Day weekend. It felt great to be home, and I couldn't wait to see my family and friends. As I walked to baggage claim I spotted my mom, dad, and brother waiting for me. I ran up to them with my computer bag smacking against my legs, and when I reached them I got lots of hugs and a bouquet of roses! I spent the day with my family going out to eat and doing some Christmas shopping. That night I drove up to Miami University to see my two best friends from high school. I spent most of the day Sunday at Miami hanging out with my friends, but I was home by 4:15 to watch the Bengals game on t.v. Too bad I rushed home to see them lose to the Colts.

On Monday I slept until 11:30 AM, and I only woke up because my dad called me then! My dad and I went out to lunch and ran some errands. That night my mom, dad, and I went back up to Miami because my friend, Anna, was cheerleading at the men's basketball game against Dayton. Tuesday and Wednesday I went to my club gym, Queen City Gymnastics, to work out and say hi to my coaches and the girls.

Thanksgiving day was pretty quiet at my house since we did not have any relatives visiting us. All of my grandparents have abandoned us and moved to Florida! Hopefully I'll get to see them over Christmas (hint hint if you're reading this grandmas and grandpas!). Dinner was wonderful as always because my parents are amazing cooks, and my mom makes the best pumpkin pie ever!

On Friday I woke up bright and early to go shopping downtown with my mom. We bought ourselves a few Christmas presents (so that way dad doesn't have to do it!), and then my mom dropped me off at Panera for lunch where I met up with my best friends from club gymnastics. It was great to see all of them because I haven't seen them since the beginning of August when I left to come back to Columbia for the school year. It was great to hear how gymnastics and everything is for going for them, as we've all gone our separate ways to Kent State, Eastern Michigan, Miami University, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Illinois. When we're together we're the girls at a restaurant that you always want to tell to shut up; but we're fun and I miss them a lot! That night I went to the University of Cincinnati men's basketball game with my family. My mom graduated from UC, and I've grown up watching UC basketball, so I love being able to go to the games when I'm home.

Since I won't be home again until Christmas, on Saturday we put up the Christmas tree and all of our other decorations. That took pretty much all day, and that night I went out to dinner with my friends from high school. After we ate, we took pictures outside of the restaurant by a huge Christmas tree, and then went over to one of the girls' houses and listened to Christmas music and played Catch Phrase! I've never laughed so hard in my life, as I did when we played that game!

And now I'm back at school, which means back to reality. Back to two more weeks of classes, then a week of finals, and also four hours of practice every day. Now it's crunch time as we prepare for our intrasquad in two weeks (December 10 at 7 PM at Hearnes!), and then our first meet, Super Six at LSU, in six weeks. The team looks absolutely fantastic, and I think we are much more prepared than last year at this point. So it looks to be a great season, and we'll keep you updated on our team every week. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and of course I can't leave without saying: GO TIGERS!
