Missouri vs. UMKC Post-Game Quotes

November 29th, 2005

Mizzou Head Coach Quin Snyder

On defending:

"We haven't felt like we defend for two halves in the way that we are capable of. We practiced hard and were focused. They got easy stuff late in the game, so we have to maintain focus."

On the bench providing a spark:

"In the 2nd half we looked flat, then Matt Lawrence, Marcus Watkins, and Leo Lyons came in. That might have been the turning point, we were up 10 and it went up to a 18 to 20 point lead."

On the game:

"I'm proud of Jason Horton, he's such a competitive sucker who gets upset by a call or a mistake. Thomas [Gardner] and Jimmy [McKinney] did a good job on Blackwell. These are some of the best guards we'll see all year and they did a good job against them."

UMKC Head Coach Rich Zvosec

Opening Statement:

"The numbers are amazing, actually. If you would have told us yesterday that we would have held them to 32 percent, force them to 20 turnovers, and allowed 60 points, I would have bet the ranch that it would have come down to the wire. We could not control the ball tonight. Maybe their physical play had something to do with it. Hats off, they battled. I'm proud of my kids. They battled to the end. If you're going to come in on the road, you have to make shots."

On this game bringing the team back down to earth:

"I don't think we were ever off the earth. We've got a bunch of young kids. They don't have a lot of preconceived notions of delusions of grandeur. This our first taste of the road, our first test. I think we learned something."

On Quinton Day pressing:

"Maybe he was a little bit. I felt like he got some good looks early, and they didn't drop. On the whole, considering this was his first game on the road, his first game against a physical point guard, I think he learned something."

Mizzou Player Quotes

Marshall Brown

On the game:

"We played a really good team, but we've got to continue to work.  The things we've been doing in practice are starting to come, so if we keep putting in the time, then I think we will do okay."

On the high number of turnovers:

"That's one of the things that we've got to work on.  I know that I really struggled with it.  But like I've said, coach has been on us really hard, and I like that because it's only going to make us better."

Jason Horton

On Quinton Day:

"We played good team defense because he didn't even get a field goal until the second half.  He's a good player though.  He was talking, but it was out of frustration because they were losing."

On the upcoming game against Arkansas:

"They are going to play good.  They've got a good team.  They are going to give us a lot of opportunities to make plays; we've just got to be ready to make them."

UMKC Player Quotes

UMKC Guard Tim Blackwell

On the early offensive struggles:

"We just couldn't find our rhythm, I mean that's all it was.  If you told us we would hold Missouri to 60 points, we were going to give ourselves a shot.  We held them to 60 points, we just couldn't find our rhythm until late."

On the halftime score Mizzou 24, UMKC 15:

"We knew we were right where we wanted them.  That was the worst half we played all year, we couldn't throw it in the ocean."

UMKC Guard Quinton Day

On the slow offensive start:

"We've been looking forward to this game for a long time, and we just came out and we couldn't hit shots."

On the offensive struggles:

"We held them to 60 points, I think that's pretty good, but we just couldn't make shots.  We were getting good shots.  It wasn't like we were taking bad shots.  We were getting good looks, good open shots but we just weren't making them."
