HENDERSON, Nev. - - The University of Missouri women's golf team is tied for ninth at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout after carding an opening round 299 on Monday at the Anthem Country Club outside of Las Vegas. The Tigers are in a three-way tie for the ninth spot with Notre Dame and UC-Irvine.
In the 16-team field, three teams are ranked among the top five in the nation and nine are in the top 30, including the No. 30 Tigers.
Junior Stephanie Wavro continued to be the most consistent Tiger, leading the team with an opening round 73, which is one over par and places her in a tie for 24th place.
Senior Denise Munzlinger finished one shot behind Wavro, with a 74 on Monday and stands in a large group tied for 31st place. One shot behind Munzlinger was sophomore Madde Augustsson, who shot even par on the back nine to finish with an opening round 75, which puts her in 38th place.
Senior Kelli Strubinger and freshman Chelsea Schriewer each turned in rounds of 77 on Monday and are tied for 53rd place.
UCLA, the second ranked team in the country, holds a six-shot lead after shooting a nine-under 279 in Monday's first round.
The second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown will take place on Tuesday with the third and final round to be played on Wednesday.
