LAS CRUCES, N.M. - - The University of Missouri women's golf took championship honors at the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate Tournament in Las Cruces, N.M. The Tigers shot a final round 299 to finish with a three-round total of 891, two shots ahead of both New Mexico and New Mexico State.
The tournament title is the first for MU since winning the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic last April. It is the seventh tournament that the Tigers have won under Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer.
"I'm really impressed with this group," Priesmeyer said. "They put themselves in a position to win and then followed through and got it. There were some good teams here so we feel very good about this win."
In the individual standings, senior Denise Munzlinger placed third with a 54-hole total of 216 (71-69-76=216). She finished three shots out of first place. The third-place finish is the best of the fall for Munzlinger and is her second top-five finish in four tournaments this year.
"I know Denise wished she could have won the tournament," Priesmeyer said. "But if she keeps putting herself in the same position, she will win her share."
Junior Stephanie Wavro finished tied for 10th with a three-round total of 222 (75-73-74), which is her best finish of the fall and matches her best 54-hole score this year.
"Stephanie Wavro continued to be one of the most consistent players around," Priesmeyer said. "A top 10 finish is a great showing at this tournament."
Sophomore Madde Augustsson shot a final round 75 for a three-round total of 224 (76-73-75) placing her 16th overall. Senior Kelli Strubinger finished in a tie for 33rd with a final total of 229 (78-77-74) and freshman Ellen Hoeper finished tied for 70th with a three-round total of 237 (79-80-78).
Next up for Mizzou is the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout on Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
