
Five Tiger Wrestlers Place at Roger Denker Open

Warrensburg, Mo. -Competing at the 12th annual Roger Denker Open in Warrensburg, Mo., on Jan. 15, five Missouri wrestlers finished among the top four of their respective weight class, with sophomore Amond Prater laying claim to a title at 133 pounds.
Tallying a perfect 4-0 record, Prater (Marietta, Ga.) walked away with his second consecutive Roger Denker Open title after holding off four Lindenwood opponents by decision. Prater opened the tournament against Damel Elsrode and scored his biggest win of the afternoon with a 10-3 decision. Prater followed his victory with wins over Tamir Middleton (5-0), Bob Howard (3-2) and Louis Edmonds (3-2).
Earning his third second place finish of the year, freshman Raymond Jordan (New Bern, N.C.) was 2-1 on the day at 165 pounds. Jordan managed wins over Blake Allen of Oklahoma (5-4) and Marc Bennett of Indiana (11-5) before falling to Jared King (Oklahoma) in a hard fought 3-2 decision.
Finishing in fourth place were freshmen Marcus Hoehn (141), Michael Chandler (157) and Joey Garrity (174). Hoehn, a native of Farmington, Mo., was 3-2 on the day after opening his afternoon of competition with a close 3-2 win over Steve Fisher of Missouri Valley.
Chandler (High Ridge, Mo.) tallied a 4-2 record with wins over opponents from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Missouri Baptist and Central Oklahoma. The freshman suffered a two-point loss to Eric Dabbs of Oklahoma State (3-1) and 7-6 decision to Will Rowe of Oklahoma.
Missouri's only 174 pound wrestler to compete at the Roger Denker Open, Garrity (Orion, Ill.) improved to 16-11 on the season after earning a 4-2 record in Warrensburg. After dropping his opening match 4-2, Garrity battled through the consolation bracket scoring three wins by decision and an 8-0 shutout of Jacob Oberfoell of Missouri Valley. In the end, Garrity fell to James Bunch (Lindenwood) 9-6.
Several members of the Missouri wrestling team will compete in their final open tournament of the season Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Mo.
