Columbia, Mo. - Competing in the third and final day of the Mizzou Three-Way Tennis Tournament held in the Green Tennis Center on the University of Missouri campus, senior Hana Kraftova and sophomore Lubica Nadasska of Missouri took first place in doubles, while newcomer Stephanie Johns, juniors Yelena Olshanskaya and Erika Josbena and Nadassaka all closed out the afternoon with wins in their respective singles matches. Missouri's team faced off against programs from Illinois State and Saint Louis throughout the tournament, securing 17 Tiger victories out of 33 matches between singles and doubles.
In doubles action, Nadasska and Kraftova finished the weekend 3-0, taking wins over Matea Simovic and Ashley Maxwell (Illinois State) 8-4 to advance to the semifinals where they beat Nicole Schneider and Michelle Rabinovich (Illinois State) also by a score of 8-4. In the championship round held today, the Tiger duo topped Katri Miller and Veronique Parke-Bedard (Illinois State) 8-3 for the tournament title.
Missouri's Olshanskaya and Josbena paired on the court to top Scheider and Rabinovich (Illinois State) 8-4 for third place in doubles. The two finished their weekend 2-1.
Competing in the singles competition, Nadassaka had the strongest showing of her Tiger teammates, with a perfect 3-0 weekend. Playing on day one, Nadassaka held off Nicole Schneider (Illinois State) 6-3, 7-5, later besting Tara Grant (Saint Louis) 6-4, 6-0 in the second day of action. Nadassaka ended the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rachael McCullagh (Saint Louis), 6-2, 6-1.
Up next for the MU tennis team, the Tigers will host the Mizzou Mock Duals, beginning Friday, Sept. 23 and continuing through Sunday, Sept 25. Arkansas and Big 12 opponents Kansas State and Iowa State will also be attending.
