Mizzou Women's Soccer Runs Past Iowa 5-0 For Fourth Win Of Season

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Tigers scored three minutes into the game and held the Hawkeyes without a shot until 10 seconds to go in the first half in Missouri's dominating 5-0 win over Iowa Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Soccer Complex in Iowa, City, Iowa.

Missouri (4-1-1) is undefeated in its last five games and improved its winning streak to four games with the win over Iowa (1-4-1). Senior Amber Swinehart found the back of the net twice in the game to propel a Tiger attack that has scored 12 goals in its last two games. Nobis also notched four points on the day with a goal and two assists.

Swinehart put the Tigers up less than three minutes into the game when she collected the ball from senior Jennifer Nobis and broke for the goal. The Hawkeye goalie came out to pressure but Swinehart's shot from the top of the box eluded the keeper and found the back of the net for Swinehart's third goal of the season.

Mizzou netted its third goal in the 62nd minute when junior Elyse Nikonchuk passed a through ball up to Swinehart, who streaked to the goal and slammed the ball past the Hawkeye keeper. Nobis also assisted on the play.

Nobis put the Tigers ahead 4-0 35 seconds later after her 12-yard blast from the left side of the box found the back of the net.

With Mizzou comfortably on top 4-0, freshman Ashley Hamblin scored her first collegiate goal when she dribbled into the box and unleashed a left-footed bomb. The Iowa keeper initially got a hand on the shot but the rebound trickled into the back of the net for a 5-0 Tiger lead, which held on as the final score.

Missouri outshot 20-8 in the game and 13-1 in the first half. Tiger sophomore goalkeeper Laura Buehrig made four saves in the game

The Tigers return home to Walton Stadium Tuesday, Sept. 13 for a non-conference matchup with North Dakota State at 7:00 p.m. to kickoff a five-game homestand. Mizzou then faces off against the College of Charleston on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18 against Cal Poly.at 1:00 p.m.
