Max Scherzer recorded a win and Hunter Mense had two hits and a pair of RBI as Team USA won its seventh-straight game with a 5-3 victory over Nicaragua on Saturday in Durham, N.C.
Scherzer (2-1) faced one batter in the seventh, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 6.0-plus innings. Scherzer's final strikeout of the night ended the sixth inning and was registered at 99 miles per hour.
Team USA got two runs in the top of the fourth, thanks to a Mense (Missouri, So., Liberty, Mo.) two-run single up the middle against a drawn-in infield. Mense finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Team USA and Nicaragua continue the series Sunday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park; first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT.
