Tigers Dominate Oral Roberts, 6-1

April 7, 2005

Columbia, Mo. - The Mizzou Tiger soccer team picked up its first spring season victory with a 6-1 win over Oral Roberts. Adjusting to a new system of play, several players stepped up with sound showings as the Tigers overpowered the Golden Eagles with a 4-4-2 formation.

Anchoring the Tigers, sophomore Elyse Nikonchuk dominated the field scoring three goals, including the game-winner.

Scoring an additional pair, Jennifer Nobis worked to establish Mizzou's pace. Keeping Mizzou on top, the junior shined creating several scoring opportunities.

Rounding out the Tigers' scoring trio, junior Amber Swinehart played with skill and creativity netting Mizzou's first goal of the match.

Seeing inspired performances across the field, Aria Hudetz and Lauren Vineyard gave the Tigers stability on the flanks providing good crosses and organized defense. Hudetz's efforts paid off as she dished out two assists in the match.

"This was a good game for us to show what we've been working on in training over the past month," Head Coach Brian Blitz said. "We did some good things and struggled in some areas, so we will look to continue to improve for next week's game. Overall we started slow in the first half, but as a staff we were pleased with the adjustments and effort that was put out in the second half."
