Columbia, MO - The No. 16 University of Missouri Women's Golf squad wrapped up the second round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic this morning after severe weather suspended play with just one hole left to play yesterday afternoon. The Tigers finished strong and recorded a second round total of 290 which moved them into first place with a total of 588, nine strokes up on Baylor. The tourney is being played at The Trails Golf Course, a par 72, 6,017 yard trek in Norman, OK.
"We really battled in the second round and finished the round strong this morning," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "I liked our aggressiveness and focus especially out of our seniors and we need to keep that kind of mindset in the third round."
After firing an opening round 76, senior Maria Ohlsson was outstanding in the second round shooting a two-under par 70 including a birdie on the 18th hole to move into a tie for third at 146. Fellow senior Mindy Bullard also continued to be consistently great with her second straight round of 73 to also put her in a tie for third at 146, just two strokes behind tourney leader Cas Bridges of Tulsa (72-72=144).
Juniors Denise Knaebel (73-76=149 - T-7th) and Kelli Strubinger (76-74=150 - T-9th) have maneuvered into the top 10 heading into the final round which is being played this morning with completion set for later this afternoon. Sophomore Stephanie Wavro and freshman Madde Augustsson (who is playing as an individual) are also in contention for top 10 finishes heading into the final round. Wavro followed up a tough 78 in the opening round with a spectacular 73 in the round two to finish in a tie for 12th (151) while Augustsson also registered a 73 in round two to move into a tie for 16th (152).
