HITS KEEP ON COMING
Freshman Jacob Priday carries the longest hitting streak for MU into Wednesday's game with Illinois State. Priday has reached safely in the last seven games, matching the longest streak of the season by a Tiger. Junior James Boone had a seven-game hitting streak to open the year. Boone currently has a five-game hitting streak in tact.
Junior Derek Chambers and sophomore Hunter Mense are currently on four-game hitting streaks and sophomore Gary Arndt has had a hit in each of the last three games.
LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD
Mizzou has outscored its opponents 136-52 this season and has recorded double digits in runs in seven of its 12 games. The Tigers are averaging over 10 runs a game, while holding it opponents to four runs a game.
From Feb. 18-26, Missouri put together a string of five-straight games in which it scored in double figures. During that stretch, the Tigers outscored their opponents 68-15.
After defeating Gardner-Webb 12-9, Winthrop 10-3 and Akron 11-0, MU rolled over Navy by a score of 25-2 and followed that with a 10-1 win over Indiana State.
T-G-I-PRIDAY
Freshman Jacob Priday enters Wednesday's game with a seven-game hitting streak in tact and has had a home run in each of the last three games. Priday leads the Tigers with four home runs on the season and is third with 12 RBI. His .387 batting average is second best on the team.
He has a .871 slugging percentage and is 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
In the four games against Eastern Michigan last weekend, Priday homered three times, scored five runs and drove in six runs.
THE HITTING CHAMBERS
Junior Derek Chambers has started every game at first base for MU and is hitting .367 in his first season at Mizzou. Chambers, a junior college transfer from Arkansas-Fort Smith, has had a hit in 10 of the Tigers' 13 games on the season.
He has a four-game hitting streak in tact and earlier put together a five-game streak. Chambers leads the team with six multi-hit games on the season (four 2-hit games and two 3-hit games).
McKEE TO VICTORY
Sophomore John McKee leads Missouri with a .405 batting average as he has become the Tigers' everyday third baseman. Of his 17 hits on the season, five have gone for extra bases, including two home runs.
Last season, McKee played in 19 games, starting 11 times, and hit .243 with one homer. The home run was his first career hit at Missouri.
FRIDAY THE 13TH
Last Friday, sophomore Max Scherzer set a career-high with 13 strikeouts, becoming the first MU pitcher with a double-digit strikeout performance since Danny Hill had 11 against Chicago State last March.
Scherzer did not allow a run in six innings, getting strikeouts for 13 of the 18 outs he recorded. It was the second consecutive start in which he did not allowed a run as he moved to 2-1 on the season.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
With its 7-1 win last Friday over Eastern Michigan, Mizzou improved to 8-3 under Head Coach Tim Jamieson in home openers. Last season, MU fell to Youngstown State, 3-2 in the first home game of the season. Prior to that, it had won three straight home openers.
BOONE DOCKS
Just 12 games into the season, junior James Boone has already totaled 23 RBI. He had five RBI against Navy on Feb. 25. The last Tiger to have a 5-RBI game was Boone in last season's Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma State.
He had a total of six RBI in the two games of last Saturday's doubleheader with Eastern Michigan (two in game one, four in game two). Boone has had a hit in all but one game this season for Mizzou.
Last season, Boone was third on the team with 68 RBI. At his current rate, he is on pace to drive in 100 runs. The record at Mizzou is 101 set by Aaron Jaworowski in 1996.
RECORD SETTING DAY AGAINST NAVY
The Tigers opened up the Service Academy Classic with a blowout victory over Navy, 25-2. The 25 runs were the most scored by Missouri since a 30-0 win against Truman State in 2003.
MU also set a new record in the 17 years of the Service Academy Spring Classic with its run total, easily passing the old record of 15 set by Ole' Miss in 1998.
Mizzou set a new school record with 26 hits vs. Navy. Eleven Tigers had a hit in the game and nine had at least two hits.
Freshman Jacob Priday became the first MU player since 2002 to have five hits in the game, going 5-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. The hits were the first of Priday's career, as he entered the game 0-for-5 on the season.
ZEROS ACROSS THE BOARD
A run scored by Navy in the eighth inning of last Friday's game snapped a stretch of 23-scoreless innings pitched by the Missouri pitching staff dating back to the third inning of its game against Winthrop on Feb. 19.
The Tigers held Winthrop scoreless for the final 6.1 innings, pitched a shutout against Akron and went 7.2 innings against Navy before allowing a run.
