"Pink Out" Event Raises $1,000 for Cancer Center

Feb. 4, 2005

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri gymnastics team had quite a night on January 21st, as the Tigers defeated Centenary by a 191.275-188.22 score at the Hearnes Center. More importantly, however, the night also served as a fundraiser for the fight against breast cancer, as the night was designated "Pink Out," with the team wearing special pink leotards and most everyone in attendance wearing pink to commemorate the color associated with breast cancer awareness.

Mizzou donated a portion of the tickets sold to the dual to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, and over $1,000 was raised in this fashion. Pink ribbons were handed out at the event, and 500 commemorative t-shirts were distributed to those in attendance, which numbered just under 1,700.

Many fans also took advantage of a cancer screening booth staffed by Ellis Fischel to pick up information or to get a skin screening.
