LAWRENCE, Kan. -- -
Missouri had its eight-game winning streak against Kansas snapped on Friday night as the Jayhawks took an 11-6 win in the opener of the three-game series in Lawrence, Kan.
After Kansas got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, Mizzou responded by scoring two runs in the top of the second on a two-run double by senior Jeremy Hernandez.
The Jayhawks would retake the lead by putting two runs across the plate in their half of the second.
But again, Missouri (29-19-1, 8-13) would respond, tying the game a three when sophomore Trevor Helms scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Cody Ehlers. Helms had reached base on a single, which extended his hitting streak to nine games.
With the scored tied at three, Kansas broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. The first three batters in the innings reach to load the bases and Matt Baty would cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Matt Tribble would double in two more runners later in the inning.
In the fifth, Andy Scholl made the score 9-3 with his sixth home run of the year.
Mizzou cut into the lead with three runs in the eighth inning, two of those runs scoring on Hernandez' second double of the game. He was 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI.
Kansas (27-30-1, 3-18) scored the final two runs of the game on a homer off the bat of Ryan Baty in the eighth inning.
Senior Danny Hill started on the mound for Mizzou and ran into the early trouble, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings. It was the shortest outing of the year for Hill and the first game he didn't make it to the sixth inning since February 19.
