
Tom Botts Invitational Off To Good Start

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri track and field team hosted day one of the 8th annual Tom Botts Invitational on Friday. Windy, cold conditions dictated most of the later afternoon affecting many of the events.
In the first day of the women's heptathlon, Tiger post-graduates, Fiona Asigbee and Michelle Moran are 1-2, both on a personal-best pace. Asigbee has 3,428 points; Moran has 3,337. Missouri sophomore Jessica Stockard (Godfrey, Ill.) is third overall in the competition, and is the first collegian after day one with 3,216 points.
Senior Holly Scherder took the title in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 195 feet, 4 inches (59.55m), just a foot off of her school record. Ann Snider took second with a throw of 175-8 (53.55m). Both had already for the NCAA regional championships.
Dan Hines of Iowa State leads the men's decathlon event after day one with 3,430 points. Tiger junior Brandon Goebbert stands in second with 3,238.
Senior Gary File won the men's javelin title, throwing for 203-0 (61.53m).
Missouri went 1-2-3 in the men's 5000-meter run with Chase Hall, Josh Davis, and David Mertens finishing in that order. Hall won with a time of 14:41.49.
Tomorrow, day two of the decathlon will get underway at 9:00 a.m., the heptathlon will start at 9:30, open field events start at 11:00, and track events start at 11:30.
