SECAUCUS, N.J. - University of Missouri senior forward Evan Unrau (Fort Collins, Colo. / Rocky Mountain HS) was selected by the Washington Mystics in the third round of the WNBA Draft, held Saturday at NBA Entertainment studios.
Unrau was the second selection of the third round (28th overall), and joins former Tiger All-American Amanda Lassiter (Houston Comets, 2001) and Marlena Williams (Indiana Fever, 2001) among Mizzou's three all-time WNBA draft selections. Lassiter, who played last season with the Seattle Storm, was traded to the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday in a pre-draft swap.
She was the third Big 12 Conference player taken, as the Lynx took Kansas State's Nicole Ohlde with the sixth overall pick, and Phoenix - which took Diana Taurasi with the No. 1 overall selection - drafted Oklahoma's Maria Villaroel with the first pick of the third round. The Mystics used their earlier picks on Duke standout Alana Beard (No. 2 overall) and North Carolina State center Kaayla Chones.
Washington finished seventh in the Eastern Conference last year with a 9-25 record. The Mystics feature former Tennessee standout and three-time WNBA All-Star Chamique Holdsclaw, former Georgia All-American Coco Miller, and former Oklahoma All-American Stacey Dales-Schuman.
The Mystics begin their preseason against Indiana on Tuesday, May 11, and will start the regular season vs. Charlotte on Saturday, May 22. Two July games are scheduled for telecast by ESPN2, and games in August and September will be televised by the Oxygen network.
