Oakland at Missouri

December 4, 2004

Norm Stewart Court at Mizzou Arena - Columbia, Mo.

Game Notes

Mizzou now holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series between these two teams.

The Tigers won the only other meeting between these two teams, 90-85 in Detroit last November.

With this victory, Mizzou improved its all-time record in games played on December 4 to 11-5.

Mizzou is now 11-0 all-time versus Mid-Continent Conference opponents.

Missouri Team Notes

Mizzou held the Golden Grizzlies scoreless for the first 2:24 of the game, during which senior guard Jason Conley scored five straight points to give the Tigers the early lead.

As a team, the Tigers have recorded at least two blocked shots in every game this season. The last time Mizzou failed to record at least a pair of blocks was their season-ending loss to Michigan last season.

After Oakland pulled to within one with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half, Mizzou went on a 12-0 run that spanned 2:53 to take a 21-8 lead midway through the half.

The Tigers tied a season high for three-point field goals attempted in the first half of a game with 13. The mark was set in the season-opener against Brown.

With the game tied 38-38 at the 15:51 mark of the second half, Mizzou took off on a 12-0 run that spanned 2:35.

Each player to see action for the Tigers grabbed at least one rebound, marking the first time that has occurred this season.

Mizzou bested the Golden Grizzlies in points off turnovers, 23-10, and second chance points, 14-9.

Missouri Player Notes

All of junior forward/center Kevin Young's five points in the first half came from the free throw line, where he drained five of his six attempts.

Freshman guard Jason Horton scored seven points in the first half, on 2-of-4 shooting, which tied his career high.

Senior guard Jason Conley scored the Tigers' first basket of both the first and second halves, both times on the team's first possession of the frame.

With the game tied early in the second half, sophomore guard Thomas Gardner scored six points in a row to give Mizzou the lead. That stretch was followed by another personal 6-0 run, this time by senior guard Jason Conley. The Tigers held Oakland scoreless over that period.

Sophomore forward Linas Kleiza's nine assists constitute a new career high, surpassing the mark of five he set in Mizzou's first meeting with Houston this season. Kleiza scored 13 points and was just one rebound and one assist away from his first career triple-double.

Junior center Jeffrey Ferguson set a personal season-high with four rebounds for the Tigers, marking the second-straight game he's recorded a season best in rebounds.

Senior guard Jason Conley tied season highs in points and three-point field goals made with 18 and four, respectively.

Oakland Team Notes

This was the second of three consecutive games against Big 12 foes for the Golden Grizzlies. They lost to Texas A&M, 81-63, on Wednesday and will travel to play Kansas State on Monday.

Oakland held Missouri without a field goal from 6:14 to 0:32 of the first half, a stretch that spanned 5:42.

Oakland's 12 assists was a season-low in that category.

The Golden Grizzlies recorded 10 steals in the game, the second-highest total by any Tigers' opponent this season. Houston, who had eight steals both times they faced Mizzou, has finished with a higher total.

Though Oakland is 0-2 against the Tigers all-time, the losses have come by a total of nine points. Mizzou won by five last year, and took this game by nine points.

Oakland Player Notes

Senior forward Cortney Scott notched his first blocked shot of the year in the first half.

Sophomore guard Kris Krzyminski scored 14 points for the Golden Grizzlies, a new career best.

Freshman forward Patrick McCloskey set a new career high in assists with two helpers in the game.
