Columbia, Mo. - After battling Mother Nature for most of the day on Monday and struggling to a total of 308, the University of Missouri women's golf squad was outstanding on Tuesday, firing a 297 on the day and moving into sixth place at the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate. Leading the Tiger charge was senior Maria Ohlsson and junior Denise Knaebel, who both put together stand-out days at the par-72, 6,150-yard Anthem Golf Club.
Ohlsson, who finished second at this event last year firing a school record total of 215, was brilliant on Tuesday, firing a one-under par 71 on the day to move into a three-way tie for the lead. Her total of 145 is one stroke ahead of two people tied for fourth and two strokes ahead of three people tied for sixth. Knaebel also made her move today after firing a 76 on Monday. She was excellent, shooting an even-par 72 to move from a tie for 72 into a tie for ninth heading into the final day of play.
"I was extremely pleased to see our kids respond so well after a struggle on Monday," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "We put ourselves in positions to be successful and make birdies and the results were definitely positive. There needs to be some carry-over heading into the final round tomorrow and hopefully we can make another run at the top spot on the leader board."
Junior Mindy Bullard was consistent, firing her second 77 of the tournament and is in a tie for 35th while freshman Madde Augustsson also shot 77 on the day, moving into a tie for 57th with a total of 158. Junior Kelli Strubinger wrapped up Mizzou's scoring efforts while also shooting a 77 and is in a tie for 64th heading into Wednesday's final round.
The Tigers shoot for their eighth top-five performance over the course of their last 11 outings on Wednesday when they play the final round on Wednesday. They are scheduled for a shotgun tee at 10:30 a.m. CST and live scoring will be provided at www.mutigers.com through www.golfstat.com.
