Columbia, Mo. - Junior Kelli Strubinger fired a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Lady Razorback Invitational on Tuesday, leading the University of Missouri women's golf squad to a fourth place finish in the 19-team event. Strubinger improved dramatically every round shooting rounds of 80, 74 and 70 for a total of 224, her best effort of the fall season.
With the fourth-place finish, the Tigers have placed in the top five in all four tournaments they have played in. Their team total of 921 was just one stroke out of third and five strokes out of second place. Big 12 foe Iowa State took the tournament title with a 905.
"We struggled early today and that kind of set the tone for the rest of the round," Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "I think that this experience definitely will make us better down the road and it was a good learning experience for our younger players. Kelli (Strubinger) was great today and bounced back well from an 80 in the opening round. That kind of effort can do wonders for a player's confidence."
Tiger junior Denise Knaebel recorded her fourth top-20 finish of the fall despite firing an 81 in the final round. Her total of 231 put her in a tie for 17th while junior Maria Ohlsson finished the tourney in a tie for 32nd at 236. Right behind Ohlsson was senior Mindy Bullard and freshman Madde Augustsson, who both finished in a tie for 35th with totals of 237.
The Invitational was played at the par-72, 6,015-yard Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, AR. Mizzou wraps up the fall portion of its season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout which will be played on Nov. 1-3 in Las Vegas, Nev.
