Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Women's Golf Squad is in second place following the opening 18 holes of the Jeannine McHaney Invitational. The Tigers fired a 295 on the day, four strokes off of the pace set by Southern Methodist University at the par-72, 6,375-yard Rawles Course in Lubbock, Texas. Mizzou is looking for its second top three finish in as many tournaments this weekend after opening the fall campaign two weeks ago with a third place finish at the Lady Northern.

Speaking of the Lady Northern, tourney champion and Tiger senior Maria Ohlsson continued to be on fire for Mizzou. After breaking the school mark for low-18 (66) and low-54 (214) hole totals at the Lady Northern, Ohlsson fired a two-under par 70 on Friday and is in third place, just two strokes off of the pace set by Arkansas' Stacy Lewis.

Several other Tigers had solid days on the course as well. Junior Denise Knaebel, senior Mindy Bullard, freshman Madde Augustsson and junior Kelli Strubinger, who is playing as an individual, all shot three-over par 75's on the day and are in a 17-way tie for 19th place heading into Saturday's second round. The 75 was Augustsson's lowest career round at Mizzou only two tournaments into her freshman year. Stephanie Wavro rounded out the Tigers' efforts with an 80, putting her in a tie for 69th.

"The weather conditions were outstanding today and course played very well," Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "I was extremely pleased to see us come out and capitalize on the conditions and put up some low scores. We are doing several things really well, but we need to be more consistent around the greens and continue to focus throughout the weekend."
