Reception Honoring Tiger Olympians To Be Held Monday

Sept. 9, 2004

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Tiger Track and Field Athletes Derrick Peterson and Hans Uldal will be honored in an Olympic Congratulation Reception hosted by the Missouri Alumni Association, U-Club, Development, and Missouri Athletics on Monday, September 13th. The reception will be held in the Reynolds Alumni Center's Grand Room starting at 4:00 p.m. The public and media are invited to attend.

Tiger post-collegian Derrick Peterson (Jonesboro, Ga.) qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in the 800-meter run. Peterson advanced to the games by placing third, running a personal-best time of 1:45.08 at the USATF Olympic Trials in Sacramento in mid-July. As a collegian, Peterson swept all eight possible Big 12 800-meter titles during his campaign and won the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championship, setting a still current American collegian record in the event.

Hans Uldal (Ardenal, Norway) qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in the decathlon during his sophomore year. At the Norwegian Champions in early-August, Uldal scored a personal-best and school record of 7,733 points in the event, gaining an Olympic qualifying standard. Uldal finished 27th in the games and was the only American collegian in the event as well as being the second-youngest athlete overall in the decathlon competition.
