Alexander Joins List of Tiger Draftees

Mizzou right-handed relief pitcher Mark Alexander became the fourth Tiger taken in the 2004 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft when the Los Angeles Dodgers selected him in the 20th round on Tuesday. Alexander joins fellow MU players Danny Hill, Garrett Broshuis and Cody Ehlers as draftees from Missouri.

Alexander set a new Missouri school record by appearing in 35 games for Mizzou this season. He had a 4-0 record and had 10 saves, which is second most in a season in MU history. The 10 saves also put him in a tied for sixth for career saves at Mizzou. He was a Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention selection and was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on May 11.

On Monday, Hill was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round with the 87th pick. Fellow right-handed pitcher, junior Garrett Broshuis was taken in the fifth round by the San Francisco Giants with the 1 60th pick overall. In the 11th round, the New York Yankees took senior first baseman Cody Ehlers with the 339th overall pick.

A total of 1,498 players were selected over the past two days of the draft.
