Missouri Loses Series to #2 Arizona Wildcats

Tucson Az-In game one of a doubleheader of the University of Missouri lost to the #2 Arizona Wildcats by a score of 3-2. The Tigers played a doubleheader due to inclement weather, which postponed play yesterday. In game two the Tigers lost 7-0. With the losses the Tigers fall to 10-15 on the season.

The Tigers came out in game one hitting the ball well. Wildcat pitcher Wendy Allen walked Sarah Stringer and Morgan LeCluyse and then hit AJ White with a pitcher, which loaded the bases for the Tigers. Shortstop Heather Kunkel singled up the middle to drive home Sarah Stringer. The Tigers were able to get it done on the defensive end, allowing the Wildcats no runs on one hit in the first inning.

The Tigers were able to keep the Wildcats at bay behind the pitching of Erin Kalka. Through seven innings she managed to strikeout five batters and finished with one walk. The loss was her second complete game on the season.

The Wildcats were able to rally in the third inning earning two runs on two hits. Autumn Champion and Caitlin Lowe scored on a single by catcher Mackenzie Vendergeest. The Wildcats were added by a Tiger error, making the score at the end of three innings 2-1. The Wildcats continued their rally in the fourth inning with a home run from Kristie Fox bringing the score to 3-1.

. The Tigers made some defensive changes moving Alli Kennewell to second base and bringing in Joanne Loethen to play first base. The Tigers also used the services of freshman Kerri Lamkin as a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth inning. The Tigers took a defensive stand behind the pitching of Erin Kalka who managed to strikeout two of the Wildcats batters in the fifth inning allowing no runs on one hit.

The Tigers wouldn't be quieted with Joanne Loethen recording a double in the top of the fifth and Morgan LeCluyse recording a single. Joanne Loethen was driven home on a single by AJ White bringing the score to 2-3. The Tigers had two runners on base but were unable to bring anyone in for a score.

"There were good aspects and there were mistakes, we need to learn from our mistakes and prepare for our upcoming games." said head coach Ty Singleton.

In game two of the doubleheader the Tigers made some lineup changes putting freshman AJ White in right field and moving Morgan LeCluyse into left field.

In the circle for the Tigers was Samantha Fleeman and behind the plate was Morgan Kent. The pair combined for four strikeouts and no walks before freshman Erica Petersen entered the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. She finished the game with one strikeout and one walk.

The Wildcats got on the board first, with Caitlin Lowe advancing home in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers couldn't stop the Wildcat offense as Arizona scored two runs in the bottom of the second and two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Tigers had no runs on three hits in the game.

The Tigers will be in action at home on Wednesday March 17, hosting the Bears of Southwest Missouri State in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled to begin at 2PM, with game two starting at 4PM.
