Missouri Falls to #2 Arizona

Tucson Az- The Missouri Tigers opened a three-game series with the #2 Arizona Wildcats with a 5-0 loss. The loss brings the Tigers season record to 10-13.

The Wildcats came out hitting, scoring two runs in the first inning. Wendy Allen and Caitlin Lowe were driven home on a double by Mackenzie Vandergeest to make the score 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. With runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings the Wildcats made the final score 5-0.

Starting in the circle for the Tigers was junior Erin Kalka. She finished the game with six strikeouts and two walks before being replaced by freshman Erica Petersen in the bottom of the sixth inning. Petersen had two strikeouts and no walks in the Tiger loss.

Behind the strong pitching of Arizona's Alicia Hollowell the Tigers had a difficult time getting base runners, having just two runners on base in the game. They also struggled on offense earning no hits in seven innings of play.

"I didn't think that we hit very well today," head coach Ty Singleton said. "I don't think that we showed them our best and hopefully tomorrow we'll come out hitting the ball better."

The Tigers entered the series with a record of 10-12 after splitting a doubleheader with #20 Arizona State in Tempe on Wednesday. The Wildcats came into the series with a record of 25-0; most recently having a 14-6 win over UTEP.

The Tigers will play game two of the series tomorrow at 1PM(PST) at Hillenbrand Stadium in Tucson; Az. Game three will be played Sunday at noon (PST).
