Tigers Split in Doubleheader with #20 Arizona State

Tempe, Az- The Tigers opened a weekend in Arizona with a doubleheader against Arizona State. The Tigers won game one by a score of 8-0 and lost game two by a score of 10-1 improving to 10-12 on the season.

In game on the Tigers came out swinging and hitting scoring three runs in the first two innings. Freshman Leanne Bowers put the first hit on the board hitting a double and was then driven home by on a single by senior Morgan LeCluyse. The Tigers were able to hold the Sun Devils to no runs, no hits and one error in the first inning.

On the mound for the Tigers was junior Erin Kalka. She had no runs on five hits and was able to strikeout seven batters and had no walks. With the win she earned her second complete game of the season.

The underclassmen came up hitting for the Tigers scoring five of the Tigers eight runs. Freshman AJ White added herself to the Tiger home run list, recording her first home run of the season to make the score 4-0 in the top of the third inning.

The Sun Devils were able to get two on base in the bottom of the fourth inning on hits by Phelan Wright and Heidi Knabe but failed to score runs when Erin Kalka managed to strike out the next two batters.

The Tigers put four runs on the board in the fourth inning beating the Sun Devils in the hitting game 11-4. The Tigers got scores from Leanne Bowers, Sarah Stringer, Morgan LeCluyse and Ashley Hays to bring the final score to 8-0.

In the second game of the day the Tigers started sophomore Samantha Fleeman on the mound. She was able to strikeout four batters and had one walk before being replaced by freshman Erica Petersen. Petersen was able to strikeout one batter and had no walks. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Tigers made a pitching change bringing in junior Erin Kalka to finish the game.

The Sun Devils came out hitting in the second game getting a triple from Farber in their first trip at bat. The Devils were able to score on a run by Kristin Faber who was driven in by a double from Val Sevilla. The Sun Devils were able to get a two run home run by Phalen Wright making the score in the bottom of the first inning 3-0.

The Sun Devils were able to put another score on the board with a home run in the bottom of the third inning by Val Sevilla, bringing the score to 4-0. The Sun Devils were able to put another score on the board when Hixson drove Keri Pulcifer home on a single.

The Tigers were able to get a run in the top of the fourth inning from freshman Sarah Stringer, who was driven home on a single by freshman Kathy Masterson. But fell short in the rally with the Sun Devils winning by a score of 10-1.

The Tigers will continue their Arizona road trip on Friday opening a three game series with the University of Arizona. The game is set to start at 3PM (PST).
