Men's Golf Tied For Seventh in San Antonio Through First Day

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Freshman John Kelly (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Brothers College HS) tied his season best by firing a one-over-par 72, and is just a stroke out of the top 10 following the first day of competition at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate in San Antonio, Texas.

Kelly followed his sixth 72 of the season with a 73, and is in a three-way tie for 12th place at three-over 145. Sophomore Ben Scott (Lancashire, U.K.) has joined Kelly in the top 15 after improving on a morning 75 with an even-par 71; he is tied for 15th just a stroke back.

As a team, the Tigers are in a seventh-place tie after shooting an aggregate 299-296-595, which puts Mizzou even with Rice (303-292). Mizzou is just six strokes out of fifth place, yet are a full 21 shots behind Kansas (285-289-574), which fired the best score in each of the first two rounds.

Among Mizzou's other individuals, senior Michael Radek (Chicago, Ill. / St. Ignatius HS) and freshman Trent Twaddle (Maryville, Mo. / Maryville HS) are tied for 47th at 153. Radek shot 79-74, while Twaddle followed a 75 with a 78. Senior David Jenkins (Springfield, Mo. / Glendale HS / SMS) is tied for 62nd place (77-78).

The 18-hole final round begins at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
