March 5, 2004 Complete Results

BUDAPEST, Hungary - Former Missouri Tiger and current volunteer track and field coach Derrick Peterson missed qualifying for the 800-meter semifinal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships on Friday.

Peterson (Atlanta, Ga.) came within 22 hundredths of a second from the final qualifier to go to the semi-final round. Timing in at 1:50.05, Peterson finished fourth in his heat and would have been the next runner to advance to the next round had more than six runners moved forward on virtue of time. Overall, Peterson finished 17th in the meet. American teammate, Michael Stemmer will advance to Saturday's semi-final, qualifying with a time of 1:48.66.

Peterson was the NCAA Champion in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run in 1999 as part of his six all-American honors gained.

Another former Tiger, Christian Cantwell will throw tomorrow in the first round of the men's shot put event starting at 11:00 a.m., central time. The top eight from the qualifying round will advance to Sunday's final.
