Tiger Track to Compete In This Weekend's Husker Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri Track and Field teams will travel to Nebraska for this weekend's 29th Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska. The meet will kickoff on Friday with the combined events starting at 1 p.m. and will continue Saturday with a full slate of track and field events starting at 10 a.m. This unscored meet could be one of the toughest for the Tigers, as 10 teams out of the Trackwire 25 will be attending the meet and 13 of 2003's NCAA Champions could appear.

Big 12 Performance List

Stacking Up The Competition
Twenty-one squads are expected to be in attendance including from the Big 12 Kansas and Kansas State. The Wildcat women are ranked No. 18 and the men are tied at No. 19 in Trackwire.com's Top 25. Nebraska's men are ranked tied at No. 19 as well in the same poll. Other teams include; from the SEC, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee's women; from the ACC, Florida State and North Carolina; from the Big Ten, Iowa, Minnesota, and Purdue, among others. Minnesota's men come in the meet ranked the highest at No. 5 in the Trackwire poll, the North Carolina women behind a strong distance and throwing contingent ranks No. 9 in the poll. In total 13 NCAA Champions and athletes with 40 all-American honors will be at the meet.

Pentathletes/Heptathletes In First Meet Of Year Friday
For the first time in the indoor season, Missouri's combined event athletes (pentathlon, heptathlon) will be competing in their events. The pentathlon, a five-event competition for the women will all take place on Friday starting at 1 p.m. For the men, the heptathlon will begin Friday at 1:45 p.m. with the 60-meter dash and will conclude with its seventh event, the 1000-meter run on Saturday. A new twist on things, for the first time in an NCAA Indoor Championship in March there will be a pentathlon and heptathlon competition.

Three Tigers Provisional Qualifiers
Missouri has three that have earned NCAA provisional qualifying marks for the indoor season. Junior transfer Conrad Woolsey (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) is currently ranked 10th in the country in the men's shot put event after his throw of 60 feet, 3? inches (18.38m) at the MU-KU-KSU Triangular. Senior Janae Strickland (Houston, Texas) also has a qualifying mark in the shot put. Her mark of 52-8 (16.05m) places her 12th in the country. Amanda Bales (Bettendorf, Iowa) ranks 11th in the country with her provisional mark of 4:48.76 in the mile run.

Woolsey to Compete Amongst Best In The Country
Conrad Woolsey currently has the best shot put throw in the Big 12 with his throw of 60-3? from the MU-KU-KSU Triangular two weeks ago. Woolsey will be going toe-to-toe with 12 of the current top 21 on the nation's shot put performance list. Currently off that list is Nebraska's NCAA Champion Carl Myerscough, who has not competed in a meet yet this indoor season, but is expected to compete this weekend.

Cantwell To Compete In Historic Millrose Games
Former Tiger Christian Cantwell (Eldon, Mo.) will be competing in Friday's 97th Annual Verison Millrose Games in New York City's Madison Square Garden. The event is the longest-running indoor track and field event in the world. Cantwell will be squaring off in the shot put event against 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Adam Nelson among others. Cantwell currently holds the year's longest indoor throw in the world after his 69-0 mark in last week's Tiger Classic. Page 2

This is the first time the Millrose Games will hold the shot put event since the 1980's. This is USA Track and Field's second stop on the Golden Spike Tour. The event will be televised on NBC Saturday from 2-3:30pm. Cantwell will throw in his event around 7:15pm, while Missouri is completing day one of the Husker Invitational. Schawbe To Compete In USA Cross Country Championships
Also on this weekend's docket will be former Tiger Ann Marie Schawbe (Brooks) competing in USA Track & Field's Cross Country Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. The collegiate cross country all-American, Schawbe will run in the open eight-kilometer race on Saturday afternoon at 1:15pm. The top six finishers in the race will earn a spot on USA's Cross Country national team that will travel to Brussels, Belgium in March. For more information on this event visit usatf.org.
