Softball Takes a Win against Arkansas Razorbacks

In the final game of the Gator Invitational the Tigers beat the Lady Razorbacks of Arkansas by a score of 5-3 . The game winning play came on a run by freshman outfielder Leanne Bowers in the top of the fourth inning off of a single by leftfielder Ashley Hays.

The Tigers started the game strong with freshman outfielder Leanne Bowers hitting a home run her first time at the plate. The Tigers continued their offense with runs by junior shortstop Heather Kunkel, sophomore third baseman Kendra Power, freshman second baseman Sarah Stringer and senior right fielder Morgan LeCluyse.

Pitching for the Tigers was junior Erin Kalka who struck out 11 batters in the game surpassing her previous record of 10 from the 2003 season.

The Lady Razorbacks managed to get a home run in the third inning from right fielder Kristen Patton bringing the score of the game to 4-1 in the top of the third. The Lady Razorbacks got another home run from B.J. Southmayd making the score 4-2.

Arkansas also scored in the fifth inning on a single by B.J. Perry advancing Rachel LeMaster home, making the score 5-3. After making a lineup change and bringing in freshman pitcher Erica Peterson, the Tigers were able to stop the Razorbacks on defense keeping the score at 5-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Tigers brought in sophomore pitcher Samantha Fleeman, who was able to strikeout Razorback Blaire Perry, keeping the score at 5-3

The Lady Razorbacks entered the game with a 1-3 record taking losses to University of Florida, University of South Florida, and the University of Tenessee-Chattanooga.

The Tigers entered the game with a record of 1-3 after taking loses to University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, University of Florida and University of South Florida and will be in action next weekend at the Stanford Invitational.
