Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Missouri women's golf squad battled blustery, wet conditions at the Firethorn Golf Course during the final round of the NCAA Central Regional Championships finishing 12th as team. The regional was played in Lincoln, NE. The Tigers shot a final-round 335 and shot a 942 for the tourney. Head coach Stephanie Cooper said that the Tigers were focused and gave a great effort, but struggled on and around the green.
"I thought the mental and physical effort was solid and I thought we hung pretty tough during the day," Cooper said. "We couldn't get putts to fall and things just didn't go our way today. I am extremely proud of these kids and the way the competed throughout the year. They are a great group."
One of the all-time great Mizzou golfers, senior Elin Ohlsson rounded out her career at Mizzou with a team-best 12th place finish in the tourney. Ohlsson fired an 80 today in the tough conditions after shooting a season-best 71 in yesterday's second round. Sophomore's Mindy Bullard and Maria Ohlsson finished in 47th and 54th place with tournament totals of 238 and 239. Freshmen Denise Knaebel and Kelli Strubinger both had tough final rounds and finished in 65th and 72nd place respectively. ` The Tigers have completed their 2002-03 season, one of the best campaigns in school history. Mizzou was the runner up at the Big 12 Championships, recorded eight top five finishes and qualified for NCAA Regional competition for the fifth time in the past sixth years.
