DALLAS - Missouri senior women's golfer Elin Ohlsson was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, conference officials announced on Tuesday. This marks the second time the Vetlanda, Sweden, native has received the award during her standout four-year career at Mizzou.
Ohlsson leads the Tigers in Top 10 performances this season with four and owns the lowest stroke average on the team at 75.9 per 18 holes. She has been on a tear as of late, finishing in the Top 10 in two of the Tigers' last three events.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support and the media relations offices, the women's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 29 first team members combined with eight on the second team. First team members are those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Ohlsson and the Tigers will now welcome the rest of the Big 12 teams to Columbia for the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship next week. Play is set to begin at 8 a.m., on Monday and admission to the event is free. Oklahoma State is the defending champion from last year's event after defeating second-place Oklahoma by three strokes at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan.
