Tiger Swimmers Prepare for U.S. Open

Columbia, Mo - This weekend Missouri swimmers Matt North, seniors Andrea Nigh and Rebecca Wolfe and sophomore Liz Schoborg will be competing in the U.S. Open in Federal Way, Washington Dec. 4-6 with hopes of qualifying for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials this summer.

In order to compete in the U.S. Open athletes must qualify in their particular event. North will be competing in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke events, Wolfe is competing in the 100 and 200-meter butterfly, Nigh has qualified to compete in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle and Schoborg will be competing in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100 and 200-meter butterfly.

This past summer Matt North qualified to compete in the Olympic Trials in the 200-meter breaststroke and he is looking to qualify in the 100-meter breaststroke this weekend. Rebecca Wolfe has already qualified to compete in the 200-meter butterfly in this summer's Olympic Trials, but she is hoping to qualify in the 100-meter butterfly as well. Andrea Nigh has hopes of qualifying for the Olympic Trials in the 50-meter freestyle. Liz Schoborg is hoping to qualify in the 100-meter butterfly.

The U.S. Open is one of the last opportunities for college swimmers to qualify for the summer Olympic Trials that will take place in July 2004. This weekend's meet will host top swimmers from around the world as there are over 900 swimmers registered to compete.

Notes: Former Missouri swimmer and 2003 All-American, Matt Ferrarelli will also be competing in the U.S. Open.
