Columbia, Mo. - Fresh off of an outstanding fall campaign in which Mizzou registered four Top five finishes in five tournaments played, University of Missouri women's golf coach Stephanie Cooper received even more good news on Thursday. Madde (pronounced Mad-ee) Augustsson (Aw-gustis-sis-son) of Solvesburg, Sweden has signed a letter of intent to attend Missouri in 2004-05.
She becomes the third player of Swedish descent to play for Cooper in her three years at Mizzou. Former Tiger Elin Ohlsson, who is currently playing on the Women's European Tour and her sister, current Tiger Maria Ohlsson, who set a school record with her 54 hole total of 215 this past week at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout, have both been major contributors on the Mizzou golf scene.
"Madde is a very strong, athletic golfer that has a lot of heart and passion for the game of golf," Cooper said. "She is very excited to be a Tiger and we are looking forward to her joining our Mizzou family."
Augustsson has had an extremely distinguished high school career. She won three tournaments this past summer on the Swedish junior tour. She has also picked up individual titles at the 2000 and 2001 Swedish Team Championships and at the Girls British Open. The talented member of the Swedish Junior National team, who plans to major in some discipline in the Science field, has carried a career stroke average of 76.0 and has registered a round as low as 68.
