Franklin, IN - The No. 21 University o f Missouri women's golf squad is in a tie for fifth place at the Shootout at the Legends Golf tournament after the opening two rounds on Monday. The Tigers opened the day with a 300 and wrapped up the day with a 298 for a two-round total of 598. Kent State leads the tourney (578) and Indiana's Danah Ford leads individually with a two-round total of 143.
Nipping at Ford's heals are 19 golfers that are within four strokes of the lead including Mizzou sophomore Denise Knaebel, who is within three strokes of Ford after shooting rounds of 73 and 73 for an opening day total of 146, good for a tie for 12th place heading into the final stanza. Junior Maria Ohlsson is also within striking distance, shooting a 148 on the day with rounds of 75 and 73 (148). After firing a two-over 74 in the opening round, sophomore Kelli Strubinger shot a 77 in Round 2 and is in 34th place, but is just eight strokes off the lead and seven strokes out of the top five.
Junior Mindy Bullard (78-75=153, 41st) and sophomore Stephanie Turner (82-77=159, 71st) both improved in the second 18 of the day and wrapped up the Tiger scoring on the day. The Tigers return to the course first thing tomorrow morning for the third and final round of the Shootout, which is being played at the par-72, 6207-yard Legends Golf Course. The Tigers are in search of the second top-five finish in three tournaments played so far this year and if they can able to move into the top spot, it would be their second championship of the fall.
