Gold Clinches Fall World Series with 10-2 Win

The Mizzou Gold team took game three of the Fall World Series with a 10-2 win at Taylor Stadium on Monday. Gold clinches the series title with its third win in the best of five series.

Gold got on the early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Cody Ehlers doubled to center driving in Trevor Helms, who had singled, and Jeremy Hernandez who reached on a walk. Ehlers then scored on a double by starting pitcher Hunter Mense.

The Black squad cut the lead to one with two runs in the second inning. Zane Taylor walked and was driven in on a double by John McKee. McKee advanced to third on a passed ball scored on a single by Scott Fisher.

The Gold team put two runs on the board in the fourth and added four in the sixth inning. Adam Garrett's single in the sixth drove in two and Mense and Dan Pietroburgo each had an RBI in the inning.

Gold's final run came in the eighth, when a walk forced Gary Arndt to the plate.

Ardnt was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Garrett has three RBI and scored a run.

Mense was 1-for-4 at the plate and picked up the win on the mound. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Mense struck out eight and walked one. Meade Hedricks picked a hitless two innings in relief of Mense.

The Gold team has won each of the first three games to clinch the series. The two teams will play a game four at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. However, game five, which was scheduled for Wednesday, will not take place.
