Tiger Tennis Heads to ITA Central Region Championships

Oct. 21, 2003

Columbia Mo.-- The Mizzou Tiger tennis team travels to Salt, Lake City, Utah, Wed.-Sun., Oct. 22-26 for the ITA Central Region Women's Championship at the Eccles Tennis Center.

The Tigers started out the season hosting the Mizzou 4-Way Tournament at the Green Tennis Center. The team triumphed by winning seven-of-nine matches on the first day and sent three singles players and one doubles team to the finals.

The Tigers continued their success winning 12 of their 24 matches at the Indiana Invitational. The competition was fierce as six of the seven teams were NCAA Tournament competitors over the last two years. The highlight of the tournament came when freshman Yelena Olshanskaya won seven straight matches to win the #4 singles flight.

Honored as an All-American Championship contender, #24 ranked Urska Juric competed in the prestigious Riviera Tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. Only 32 players were invited to the tournament, where Urska represented the Big 12 as its highest-ranking participant.

Heading into their fourth competition, the ITA Central Region Women's Championship kicks off on Wednesday Oct. 22. The University of Utah will be providing live brackets throughout the tournament.
