Missouri Falls to Texas, 2-1

Columbia, Mo.-Missouri dropped a 2-1 game against Texas to take its season record to 6-8-1 with a 0-5-1 mark in Big 12 Conference play.

The Tiger string of bad luck roped into its game against Texas. Just two minutes into play, the Longhorns were on the scoreboard taking credit for a goal scored on a deflection from a Mizzou defender.

Even with the setback, Missouri put up a solid effort making several offensive runs. The Tigers forced eight corner kicks in the first period, but were unable to utilize the opportunities. Mizzou did manage to get three shots off on the UT goal and pressure keeper Alex Gagarin to make two saves. The Longhorns also took three shots, but only caused Stephanie Krawczyk to make one save.

Despite their come back effort in the first period, the Tigers' opened the second half with another detrimental blow. Mizzou repeated its faux pas play boosting Texas to a 2-0 lead. Ten minutes into the half, UT's Kati McBain sent a corner kick into the box. A Tiger defender tried to knock the ball outside, but instead shanked the ball into the Mizzou net.

The Tiger forwards used their aggression over the mishaps to bolster their offensive efforts. Kristen Heil pounded a dangerous ball forcing Gagarin to make a diving save. The keeper was unable to get a hold of the ball however and knocked it back into play. Jennifer Nobis came up in the box to take another shot, but a Longhorn defender stepped in to help Gragarin with the save.

Encouraged by the play, the pair continued creating offensive runs until finally their resilience paid off. Heil sent a cross into the Texas box where Nobis squared the ball into the net to score.

With just over seven minutes left to play in the game, the Tigers labored to tie the game and work for an overtime victory. Although Mizzou developed several dangerous plays, the Tigers' struggle ended in a 2-1 defeat.
