Oct. 11, 2003 Missouri was able to defeat Arkansas by a score of 81-59, but despite several strong performances, they fell to the two-time defending National Champion Auburn Tigers 86-53.

Against Arkansas, the Tigers started strong as the 400 medley relay team of Amanda Morford, Mariona Costa, Liz Schoborg and Andrea Nigh finished in first place with a time of 3:51.69.

Missouri was able to sweep several events against the Lady'Backs. In the breaststroke events, senior Ellen Borgo won the 100-yard breaststroke while junior Mariona Costa finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke. Senior co-captain Andrea Nigh claimed the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events as junior Lindsay Palbykin picked up a first place finish in the 200 free. Sophomore Liz Schoborg and senior Rebecca Wolfe combined talents as Schoborg won the 100-yard butterfly and Wolfe finished first in the 200-yard butterfly.

Wolfe also added two second place finishes in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events.

Junior Becca Dawson added a first place finish in the 400 IM and junior Belinda Wood added a second place finish in the 400 IM for the Tigers.

Freshman Amy Charley made her collegiate debut today as she finished second in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Her time of 58.62 in the 100 back is a new career best for Charley.

"I'm very pleased with our win over Arkansas. The women did a great job racing today," said Missouri Head Coach Brian Hoffer. "They raced well and really showed a lot of energy and that paid of for us."

Against Auburn, MU had several exceptional performances from the freshman. Freshman Amy Charley finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and added a third place finish in the 100-yard back. Freshman Kim Gainey finished third in the 500-yard freestyle behind senior Rebecca Wolfe. In the diving well, freshman Kim Massaro placed third on the 1-meter board.

Seniors Andrea Nigh, Rebecca Wolfe and Ellen Borgo all had great races against Auburn. Nigh finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 1000 freestyle while Borgo placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Wolfe added a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and a third place finish in the 1000 freestyle.

Adding to the Tigers score, Liz Schoborg won the 100-yard butterfly and finished third, behind Nigh, in the 50-yard freestyle. Lindsay Palbykin finished second in the 200-yard freestyle as fellow junior Mariona Costa added her own second place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Head Coach Brian Hoffer was very pleased with the women's performance against Auburn.

"They were excited about getting to compete against Auburn. We were able to get some first place finishes against them (Auburn) and we are really looking forward to building on our performance here."
