Black Team Takes Victory in Black and Gold Game

Oct. 10, 2003

Box Score

The Black team defeated the Gold team in Mizzou Baseball's annual Fall Black and Gold Game on Friday at Taylor Stadium. Cody Ehlers was 3-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI to lead the Black team to the win.

The Black team scored all five of its runs on five hits in the top of the first inning off of Gold starting pitcher Garrett Broshuis. After Zane Taylor singled, Tyler Williams reached on a fielder's choice. Jeremy Hernandez then singled up the middle scoring Taylor and Ehlers doubled to drive in Williams. Hernandez scored on a wild pitch later in the inning and Ehlers was driven in on a double by Brad Flanders to center field. Flanders would score the fifth run on a Kyle Johnson single.

The Gold team responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Josiah Holst and Chaz Ebert led off the inning with back-to-back doubles, with Holst scoring on the double by Ebert. A single by James Boone advanced Ebert to third and a sacrifice by Lee Laskowski drove Ebert in.

Two more runs would cross the plate for the Gold team, one in the fifth and another in the seventh, but it was not enough to catch the Black squad.

Danny Hill, the starter for the Black team, recorded the win giving up two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings. He also struck out two and had no walks. Broshuis took the loss.

The Tigers continue fall practice which concludes with the Fall World Series on Oct. 24-29 at Taylor Stadium.
