The Intercollegiate Rankings were recently released naming two-time Central Region doubles champions Urska Juric and Katka Sevcikova the ninth-finest tennis pair in the nation. In addition to her doubles standing, Juric was also touted in 24th-place in the singles poll.
ITA Rankings are voted on by the ITA National Committee. Following the pre-season rankings, future releases will begin in January during the collegiate spring season.
Juric, a senior from Placar, Slovenia, and Sevcikova, a junior from Prague, Czech Republic held the #4 ranking for most of 2003-04 season. The pair combined to win the Big 12 regular season title last year and were both named to the All-Big 12 singles and doubles teams.
Spotlighting their career, Juric and Sevcikova own two ITA Central Region doubles championship to qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championship two seasons running. In their last ITA National outing, the pair advanced to the semi-finals defeating #1 Stanford and #3 Florida. The feat marked Juric and Sevcikova as the first doubles pair in Mizzou history to qualify for the NCAA Championship, where they made it to the second round to rounded out a 32-7 season.
Playing solo, Juric has played in Mizzou's #1 spot for the past two years and was the Big 12 singles runner-up last year playing that role. She posted a national best 9-2 run at the All-American Championship in 2003 and was a Central Region finalist. Juric became the first Tiger to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championship and ended her season ranked #37 in the nation with a 32-10 record. Sevcikova was the Big 12 regular season champion in the #2 spot and finished her year 27-9.
The Tigers begin their fall season this weekend hosting the Mizzou 4-Way at the Green Tennis Center. After finishing the 2003-04 season with their first NCAA Championship appearance and a #41 ranking, the Tigers are looking to continue building upon the greatest season in Missouri tennis history.
