Three members of the University of Missouri men's golf team were named to the Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 Golf team, it was announced today by the conference office. Junior Michael Radek earned first honors while seniors Chris Happ and Shawn Flemming earned second team nods.
Happ has recorded two Top 10 finishes and six Top 25 finishes this season. He finished in third in the Tigers' final tourney of the fall, the Landfall Tradition, and finished second at the Rice Intercollegiate in the Tigers' opening tournament of the fall.
Radek has two Top 10 finishes this season, including a second place finish at the Nestle Purina Classic, the tourney hosted by the Tigers in St. Louis at the Missouri Bluffs Country Club.
Flemming is in his final year on the Tiger squad. He is president of the Student Athlete Advisory Council and is a native of Village of Golf, Fla.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations office, the men's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 23 first team members combined with eight on the second team. First team members are those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
The Tigers will be in action next week at the at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Play is set to begin on Mon., April 28 and will wrap up on Tues., April 29. Live scoring will be provided at www.golfstat.com or at www.mutigers.com.
