COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - The Mizzou softball team recorded wins in both games of a doubleheader with UMKC on Tuesday at University Field. The Tigers took game one 5-3, before picking up a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
Ingrid Werner recorded her sixth complete game of the year in game one. She gave up five hits and struck out four to move to 6-1 on the season.
Seven Tigers had hits in the opening game with the biggest hit coming off the bat of Daisy Mettlach. Her home run in the bottom of the fourth inning was her fourth of the season. Heather Kunkel and Ashley Hays each doubled for Mizzou.
Missouri got on the board quickly in game two, with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kunkel connected for her fourth home run of the year, followed by Rachael McGinnis' 10th homer of the season. McGinnis scored another run in the fourth inning, scoring on a double by Jeni Schellert.
MU added two runs in the fifth inning on three consecutive hits. Kendra Power singled and Joanne Loethen doubled. Sara Vassmer then drove in both Power and Loethen on a double.
Samantha Fleeman pitched a two-hit complete game for her sixth win of the year. Again, seven Tigers had hits in the game.
The win in game two of the doubleheader marked the 100th career victory for Missouri Head Coach Ty Singleton. He has a career head coaching record of 100-61.
Missouri is now 26-15 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday for another in-state doubleheader against Saint Louis. Game one will start at 5 p.m. with game two to start at approximately 7 p.m.
