Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri wrapped up its third spring season under Head Coach Gary Pinkel with today's Black & Gold Game, which pitted the defense against the offense in a four-quarter scrimmage. The defense earned a 34-28 win by virtue of scoring more points in the unique scoring system, which rewards the defense with points for forcing punts, turnovers and three-and-out possessions.
The Tiger defense trailed entering the fourth quarter by a 27-23 count, but rallied for the win by forcing a fumble (recovered by Zach Kauflin), a forced punt and two three-and-outs late in the game.
The Tiger offense was led by sophomore quarterback Sonny Riccio, who threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-20 passing. He threw touchdown passes of 10 yards to tight end Clint Matthews and five yards to wideout Thomson Omboga. Junior tailback Beau Viehmann added the final offensive score of the day when he carried it in from four yards out.
