Boerne, Texas. - Freshman Kelli Strubinger fired an opening-round 71, putting her alone in second place after the opening round of the Tapatio Springs Shootout on Sunday. She and fellow freshman Denise Knaebel, who shot a 75 (4th place), led Mizzou to a great start to the tourney as they are in a tie with Illinois for second place after Day 1 of the three-day event in Boerne, Texas.
Strubinger had a great opening round, which featured four birdies on her way to the second-best round of her young career (71). Knaebel hot and cold recording six birdies, but balanced the round out with two double bogeys to fire a 75 (+3).
Freshman Stephanie Turner, who is competing in the tournament as an individual, is in a four-way tie for 17th after shooting a 78 as three Tigers reached the Top 20 after the first round. Senior Elin Ohlsson is just six strokes out of the top five after shooting an opening-round 81 (T-31st). Junior Mindy Bullard (84, T-49th) and sophomore Maria Ohlsson (85, T-54th) wrap up the scoring for Mizzou.
