The University of Missouri softball team swept a weekend series with Texas Tech this weekend winning Sunday by a score of 8-0 at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock, Texas. The Tigers move to17-11 on the year and are 2-0 in Big 12 play.
The Tigers started off the scoring in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run by junior Daisy Mettlach to left field that glazed off the glove of Texas Tech left fielder Amanda Douglas and cleared the wall to give Missouri a 2-0 lead. The Tigers added to their lead in the third inning when freshman Morgan Kent led off the inning with a double and after a sacrifice bunt by Joanne Loethen, Kent scored on a ground ball by Sara Vassmer to stake the Tigers out to a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers put up five runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game away. A double by Loethen knocked in two runs for the Tigers. Three Texas Tech errors in the inning and a three RBI single by third baseman Rachael McGinnis gave the Tigers an 8-0 lead
Tiger sophomore pitcher Erin Kalka pitched brilliantly for the Tigers going seven strong innings, striking out five, allowing five hits without issuing a walk. The Tiger will face fourth-ranked Oklahoma in a doubleheader on Wednesday in Norman, Oklahoma.
